Using
Maintenance and Detection Systems To Avoid Water Damage In The Home
There have been a large number of homeowners who have been affected by water damage one way or another. They know
that getting their lives back on track and fixing their home the way it should be is going to be costly and cause
stress in their lives. However, if you’ve never suffered from water damage in your home and don’t want to
experience the same fate, it’s time that you know how to avoid this kind of stressing incident. There are several
ways to avoid water damage to your home. What are they?
The most common causes for water damage in at home is leaking faucets and pipes. Always check your faucets so that
there is no constant water dripping from the pipes. If you find leaks, repair them immediately.
Look at your pipes for any hidden leaks. You cannot see your pipes in the walls or floor so you’ll have to look for
patches/puddles of water, usually on the floor but also on ceilings and walls. Make sure to bring in a plumber
right away if you notice these problems.
Water using appliances such as a water machine, dishwasher and other can cause water damage. To avoid this, check
them out on a regular basis. Check out the appliances in the bathroom as well. Doing regular inspections can help
you to avoid water damage to your home.
How can you check for leaking water? Check for blocked drainpipes underneath your sinks. Look for discolorations or
soft spots near your bathtubs and showers. Look at the hoses of your washer machine and dishwasher for damage or
leaks signs.
Don’t forget to inspect the roof the home since it is always exposed to weather including rain and wind. Make
inspections before the rainy and winter seasons and look for shingles that are broken or have been damaged. You
need to ensure that there are no leaves on the roof either. Chimney and vent flashings should be looked into and
thoroughly checked. If you find water stains, investigate them and determine the source. Roofs on older homes can
sustain structural damage so be sure to watch out for that.

While these are not the only ways to avoid water damage in your home, they are certainly a start. Take a proactive
stance to avoid water damage; do not wait for water damage to “damage” your home. With regular inspections and
hiring a plumber once a year to look at pipes and find those hidden leaks, you can save yourself time, money and
lots of stress.
